Project Description
Loving those who are vulnerable
Whaley Children’s Center provides tools to children and families who have experienced trauma to reach their full potential. Through dynamic leadership and dedicated staff and volunteers, Whaley Children’s Center will be a source of hope, care, and treatment to Michigan’s abused, neglected, and at-risk children and families.
The Mid-Michigan Therapy Dog’s visits offer smiles and playfulness and joy to those most vulnerable and assist the process of healing.

I love being a part of the bigger picture for our kids, knowing we are giving them a home coupled with the skills to succeed and help them in every aspect of their future. When I walk outside and hear a child yell my name to simply say hello is a small victory, but a huge step in building safe and trusting relationships.
Therapy dogs can be any breed. They must be friendly, confident, gentle and at ease in most situations. They should enjoy being petted by people, especially children and the elderly. The dog’s main job is offering comfort, affection and encouragement. It’s a tough job, but they are more than willing to do it.
